Sevilla FC announced the signing of Jon Guridi. The experienced Spanish midfielder, who was at Deportivo Alavés, arrives on a free transfer after the end of his contract.
Guridi, 31, leaves Vitoria-Gasteiz after four seasons. He became an important player at the Basque club, especially in their historic access to LaLiga in 2022/23. Last season, he lost initial space with coach Chacho Coudet, but gained decisive minutes with Quique Sánchez Flores in the fight to stay.
Alavés published an official statement this Wednesday thanking the player for his dedication. The club wished success in the new challenges, highlighting Guridi’s professionalism and commitment to the Albiazul shirt. During his tenure, the midfielder played around 148 official games.
Versatile profile for the Luis García Plaza project
Sevilla were looking for a disciplined midfielder, with experience in the Spanish elite and the ability to play in different roles. Guridi fits perfectly: he can play as a pivot, box-to-box inside or provide support on the left. His strength lies in ball recovery, positional intelligence and criteria when leaving the game.
At 1.79m and left-handed, the player born in Azpeitia arrives to bring balance to a sector that has suffered from recent irregularities. He signs for three seasons, until June 2029, with the option of one more. The operation is in line with the Andalusian club’s economic reinforcement policy.
Immediate reinforcement amid reconstruction
Sevilla is going through a period of restructuring under the command of Luis García Plaza, recently hired. Guridi represents a safe bet: a mature player, with proven performance and no transfer costs, which helps to respect the salary limit. He will compete for position with the likes of Sow, Agoumé and possibly Gudelj.
His arrival helps to stabilize the midfield in a team that needs consistency to avoid problems in the table. The official announcement should take place in the next few hours, with Guridi joining the squad for pre-season.
