Olympique Lyon announced that it has exercised its option to purchase defender Noham Kamara. The 19-year-old Frenchman, who arrived on loan from Paris Saint-Germain at the beginning of February, is now linked to the club until 2030.

Kamara, trained in PSG’s youth teams, arrived in Lyon to earn minutes in the main team. The initial agreement provided for a loan until the end of the 2025/26 season, with a purchase option set at 4.1 million euros, plus up to two million in variables.

The defender’s stay represents a bet on the potential of a player who has already had minutes with the French under-20 team. Born in Meaux, the 1.83m center has technical characteristics that draw attention to his aerial play and ball delivery.

Since his arrival, Kamara has had limited participation, coming on as a substitute in some Ligue 1 games. Lyon, which seeks to balance the squad with young promises, sees him as an option for the future of the defense, especially with the need for reinforcements that fit into coach Paulo Fonseca’s project.

Strategic investment for Lyon

The decision to activate the purchase option comes at a time when Lyon are managing their budget carefully after turbulent periods. Locking Kamara for the long term allows the club to develop the athlete internally and, eventually, profit from a future sale, considering that PSG kept a percentage on a resale.

For the young man, the agreement means stability and opportunity for growth away from the greater pressure at PSG, where his chances in the first team were restricted. Kamara has already demonstrated quick adaptation to the Lyon environment.

The defender must continue to be trained in the main team or alternate with team B, depending on tactical needs. The stay reinforces Olympique Lyon’s long-term planning in the transfer market.
