Musician Oliver Tree excluded relatives from his will before dying in a helicopter crash in Rio
American singer Oliver Tree, who recently lost his life in an aircraft crash in Rio de Janeiro, took drastic action in relation to his material possessions. A few weeks before the air disaster, the composer publicly detailed that his family would not be entitled to any part of the money accumulated during his career.
This financial choice was explained on April 24, when the star participated in the Zach Sang Show, one of the most popular podcasts among young audiences in the United States. During the broadcast, he delved into the reasons that led him to disinherit his relatives.
“I am convinced that no material goods or profits derived from my work truly belong to me”, said the vocalist in the interview. He was categorical in stating: “My last will and testament document already establishes that, after my death, no member of my family line will lay their hands on a single cent.”
According to the artist’s own statements, all of the financial resources obtained from his songs will be transferred to a charitable organization created by him.
“My main objective is to ensure that, in my absence, all the funds return to the hands of other creators”, explained the American. He also described how the project works: “I founded an institution called Dr. Oliver Tree’s Art Grants for Young Geniuses. The system works in a way that the ongoing income from my tracks financially supports the donations.”
Composer’s early statements about the end of his life and the impact of his works
Throughout that same interview, the music producer made in-depth analyzes of how the public would view his work after he was no longer alive.
“Only when I’m no longer here will the public value my absurd clips and my crazy compositions. That’s how society learns to value it. As a rule, a creator’s pass goes up a lot after death,” declared Oliver Tree.
The star concluded his reasoning by warning about the fragility of human existence. “No one can predict what my last studio release will be. My end could happen at any moment. I was at risk of losing my life on the way to this studio”, reported the young man at the time.
Details of the air disaster in the capital of Rio de Janeiro and the tributes from the artistic community
Composer Melanie Martinez used her social media profiles to publish a moving text in memory of Oliver Tree, who passed away at the age of 32.
The music producer was among the six fatal victims of a mid-air collision involving two helicopters, a tragedy recorded last Sunday (14) over the Recreio dos Bandeirantes region, a coastal area in the West Zone of Rio known for its tourist overflights.
The two artists publicly began a romance in 2019 and, even after the breakup of the relationship in 2021, they continued to demonstrate mutual respect to their fans.
Through a long virtual outburst, Martinez made clear the extent of the pain caused by the early departure of his former love partner.
“He gave his soul to his own art, a characteristic that I always looked at with great admiration and respect”, published Melanie. The young woman added: “I believe that everyone around him will access his memory and remember the moments of fun that he created so naturally. His smile was contagious in any environment and brought a lot of human warmth.”
Farewell message highlights music producer’s unique personality and talent
In the same farewell text, the singer made a point of praising her former boyfriend’s genius and the way he managed to remain authentic within the music industry.
“His ability to guide projects with innovation, without losing that look of fascination typical of a child, served as a daily inspiration. He carried an immense sweetness in his chest and breathed art into all his attitudes”, pointed out the pop star.
The digital tribute ended with some words addressed directly to the spirit of the injured musician.
“Find peace, Oliver. I’m sure you’re already making the angels laugh. I’ll stay here trying to guess what the next crazy thing or invention is that you’re planning there in paradise. Receive all my love”, concluded the composer.
Professional rise and the impressive numbers achieved by the star on digital platforms
Originally from the city of Santa Cruz, in the state of California, where he was born in 1993, Oliver Tree gained global fame by mixing catchy melodies with a purposefully bizarre visual identity. The unmistakable style involved gigantic pieces of clothing, unusual haircuts and live shows that functioned as a mix of comedy sketches, choreographed fights and satire from television shows.
Before the accident, the singer’s profile recorded 11 million monthly plays on the Spotify app, in addition to a fan base of over 2 million profiles on Instagram. The American’s CV includes strong partnerships with names like David Guetta, Marshmello, KSI, BoyWithUke and the group Little Big.
The first steps in the industry took place during the school years, through independent productions. The turning point occurred in the 2017 season, when the track “When I’m Down” exploded in popularity and dominated internet forums.
In 2020, the artist released the album “Ugly Is Beautiful”, his debut project for a major record label, which secured the top of the rock charts and reached 14th place on the coveted Billboard 200 list.
The peak of commercial success followed with the hit “Life Goes On” (2021) and gained even more strength with “Miss You” (2022), driven by a remixed version by DJ Robin Schulz. Adding just these two songs, the producer surpassed the impressive barrier of 1.4 billion plays on Spotify.
