Diddy’s release date is brought forward and rapper could leave federal prison as early as 2028
Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs is serving a 50-month sentence at the Fort Dix Federal Penitentiary, located in New Jersey. Although the forecast for his departure has been changed several times in recent months, a new review has brought the date noticeably earlier, while an appeal over his sentence remains under judicial review.
Projections indicate that Diddy could have his freedom restored as early as 2028.
February 23, 2028 appears as the new scheduled date for the businessman’s potential release from confinement, according to information available in the public database of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), the main penitentiary agency in the United States.
Previously, the release projection for Diddy was April 15, 2028. Before that, predictions were circulating for the end of April, and the original date indicated June 4, 2028. With the recent changes, the artist’s release was brought forward by around three and a half months. He was detained in September 2024 and the final verdict took place in October 2025.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has not provided an official explanation for this latest change. However, the newspaper Page Six revealed that Diddy had been included in a rehabilitation program for drug addiction in November, an initiative that, in the United States, often allows for a reduction in the period of serving a sentence.
Appeal against conviction and new process keep rapper under judicial scrutiny
In March of this year, Diddy’s legal representatives filed a formal appeal against the court decision. The defense argued that the total prison time, initially estimated at four years and now reduced to around three and a half years, was excessive and disproportionate to the offenses for which the 56-year-old rapper was sentenced. The petition requests Diddy’s release or, alternatively, a review of the length of his sentence, with a final deliberation on the matter still awaited.
In addition to questions surrounding his conviction, Diddy’s legal landscape remains turbulent. A new lawsuit was filed against the rapper last week, adding yet another chapter to his recent legal challenges.
