Canadian midfielder Ismail Koné, who suffered a compound fracture in his leg during the clash against Qatar, made his first public demonstration since the serious injury that kept him out of the 2026 World Cup. In a social media post published this Friday (19), the athlete expressed a deep reflection on his faith, thanked the support received from fans and expressed optimism regarding his rehabilitation process.
In his message, Koné stated, “Allah has never abandoned me. Throughout my life, not once. So why doubt Him now? Especially knowing that He knows and sees everything before it even happens. He has a plan and a purpose for all of us. This battle is a test of my faith in Him and my character. And honestly, I am ready for it, because Allah will never give you a challenge that you are not able to overcome. Being tested is one of God’s greatest gifts.”
The player also highlighted the solidarity and support of his teammates in the national team. As he lay on the field, Canadian athletes formed a circle around him, and some, like striker Jonathan David, became emotional. During Canada’s fourth goal celebration, Saliba paid a special tribute by holding up his teammate’s number 8 shirt.
Saliba celebrated a goal for Canada and paid tribute to Koné.
Koné addressed his teammates: “To my Canadian brothers, as I transform into an assistant coach to support you from the sidelines 😂, I want you to know that I love you from the bottom of my heart. Our brotherhood means everything to me. What you did yesterday will stay with me forever. I will be back very soon and we will continue to create more memories together.” Expectations for its quick recovery are high, especially with Canada preparing to co-host the next edition of the World Cup in 2026, where the presence of its national talent will be even more crucial.
Koné’s injury occurred at the beginning of the second half of the match, with Canada already leading 3-0 and with one more player. Madibo, responsible for the play that resulted in the Canadian’s injury, was sent off, leaving Qatar with two fewer athletes on the field. The game ended with a 6-0 victory in favor of Canada, placing the team at the top of Group B.
The match that marked Koné’s serious injury was also the scene of Canada’s first free kick goal, culminating in their remarkable World Cup victory.
After being removed from the pitch, Koné was taken to the hospital, where he will undergo surgery. Due to the seriousness of the injury, he is officially out of the World Cup. An athlete from Sassuolo, Italy, Koné is 24 years old and was participating in his second tournament. The midfielder was born in Côte d’Ivoire and moved to Canada when he was seven years old.

Your love and support has been felt. Sincerely, thank you very much. You can’t even imagine how grateful I am to everyone who contacted me and kept me in their prayers.
I thank God for that, because not everyone is as lucky. ❤️
To my Canadian brothers, as I became a technical assistant to support you on the sidelines 😂, I want you to know that I love you from the bottom of my heart. Our sisterhood means everything to me.
