The Nissan Kicks, after a year of launches in countries such as Brazil, Mexico and the United States, is now expanding its presence to Asian markets. Its recent arrival in Japan introduces a key differentiator: the e-Power hybrid system, a technology already present in other vehicles from the automaker. The model also stands out for its enhanced safety and an adventurous version exclusive to the region.

Nissan has confirmed that the e-Power engine is coming to the Kicks with its latest update. This configuration incorporates a 1.4 three-cylinder gasoline engine, delivering 98 horsepower and 11.7 kgfm of torque, with the exclusive function of generating electricity for the system’s battery. It is important to note that this propellant does not have a direct mechanical connection with the car’s wheels.

The vehicle’s movement is primarily propelled by an electric motor with 143 hp and 32.1 kgfm of torque, which is powered by the battery and positioned on the front axle. For the e-4orce version, the Kicks receives a second electric motor, with 68 hp and 14.2 kgfm, installed on the rear axle, giving it all-wheel drive capability.

e-Power technology has been the subject of Nissan’s promises for a long period, but has not yet been introduced into the Brazilian market. The expectation is that, after this considerable delay, the system will make its debut in Brazil through the X-Trail SUV, which will become the Japanese manufacturer’s first hybrid in the country, with launch scheduled for the second half of the year.

Regarding the introduction of the hybrid Kicks in Brazil, the company is keeping the possibility under analysis. During a press conference in Japan in April, CEO Ivan Espinosa detailed that the Brazilian market is highly competitive, and the success of a hybrid version of the Kicks will depend on its commercial viability.

If the hybrid Kicks is, in fact, introduced in Brazil, it will face direct competition from vehicles such as the Toyota Yaris Cross and the Omoda 5, both using HEV hybrid technology. Additionally, the BYD Atto 2, a recently launched plug-in hybrid (PHEV), would also be one of its rivals.

New Rock Creek version displays an adventurous look

In addition to the engine options, a distinctive feature of the Kicks sold in Japan is the introduction of the Rock Creek version, with a focus on adventure. This configuration features wheels with an exclusive design, plastic details on the top of the front grille, stickers that refer to the name of the series and a selection of more vibrant colors.

Among the standard and optional items, the seats with Zero Gravity technology, an instrument panel and a multimedia center combined with integrated 12.3-inch screens are notable. Completing the list are features such as a 360º camera, intelligent emergency braking system, cross traffic alert and blind spot sensor.
