The city of Philadelphia, the stage for the confrontation between Brazil and Haiti in the 2026 World Cup, is experiencing a vibrant transformation, according to the report of Francilene Sousa, a 55-year-old fan from Paraíba. She describes a spontaneous samba scene, exchanges of hugs between people who have just met and even the participation of Americans who have surrendered to the contagious rhythm. The festive atmosphere precedes the match scheduled for this Friday (19).

Born in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, Francilene spent most of her life in João Pessoa, where she worked as a municipal public servant. Approximately two years ago, she made the move to the United States, choosing Philadelphia to live with her daughter, who has lived in the North American city for a decade.

The intense movement of Brazilian fans began last Thursday night (18), occupying several tourist attractions in Philadelphia. The woman from Paraíba said that her compatriots came together in lively celebrations, creating an atmosphere of fraternization on the eve of the expected game between the teams of Brazil and Haiti.

“With the massive arrival of Brazilians, Philadelphia gained a happier and more vibrant atmosphere. The atmosphere is one of pure celebration”, said the fan. She highlighted the contrast with the local routine: “Anywhere people gather, there is samba, lots of hugs, lots of conversation, the complete opposite of the usual silence and individualism here. The city has transformed, looking like a piece of Brazil! We feel immense satisfaction, as if we were at home, in our homeland.”

The mobilization of fans has also captured the attention of local inhabitants and Americans themselves. Francilene observes that they show curiosity, approaching places of concentration to observe and participate in the Brazilian effervescence.

“The aspect that impressed me most about this euphoria among the fans was the happiness and the way everyone interacts, as if they were a big family. People hug each other, even without knowing each other, and the joy is palpable”, explained Francilene. She added that residents of the United States “are loving the energy”, actively participating, getting closer to talk and even risking dance moves. “The contagious joy of Brazilians is something incomparable throughout the world.”

For this Friday’s match, which will pit Brazil and Haiti face to face, Francilene chose to watch the game alongside her daughter and friends. They chose a location close to the stadium, equipped with specially mounted screens for public broadcasting.

“It’s an extremely vibrant point, from where we can feel all the hustle and bustle of the stadium”, described the fan. She added: “We are very close, which will allow us to see the arrival of the national team players and the buses. The expectation to watch today’s game is huge. We have already purchased shirts, flags and even headwear”, she commented, showing enthusiasm.
