The United States government has established a new Scientific Advisory Board for Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), marking a significant change in approach to the topic. The initiative aims to deepen data analysis and uncover the nature of these events, considered both a national security concern and a potential historic scientific discovery. The creation of the council occurs in a period of growing public interest, including the release of fictional films, while the reality of the investigations advances.

New scientific approach to anomalous phenomena

The formation of the council represents a joint effort by the White House, the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the FBI, and other intelligence agencies. The central mission is to focus on collecting and analyzing concrete evidence, distancing itself from speculation and discussions on social networks. The priority is to obtain high-quality data to solve the mysteries surrounding UAPs, a philosophy that astrophysicist Avi Loeb, involved in the creation of the group, summarizes as “keeping your eyes on the orbs, not on the audience.”

Recent AARO report details unexplained observations

The need for more robust scientific investigation has been reinforced by the recently released third batch of UAP files declassified by the US government. Among the documents, an AARO report, dated June 5, 2026, and signed by Dr. Jon Kosloski, director of the office, describes intriguing phenomena. The document mentions observations of an orange “mother orb” launching smaller red orbs, noticed by law enforcement officials in October 2023. The report points out that around 40% of recorded phenomena remain without reasonable explanation, reinforcing the urgency of the research.

Implications for national security and the future of science

The inability to identify the nature of various UAPs is a serious concern for the country’s national security. There is a possibility that these phenomena are technologies developed by adversary nations, such as drones or spy balloons. However, the council will also explore the hypothesis of a non-human origin, which, if proven, would represent the greatest scientific discovery in history. Former President Donald Trump’s directive to declassify UAP files, mentioned by Loeb, is seen as an important step toward verifying the protection of strategic locations and boosting the development of more advanced sensors and AI tools to assist the Pentagon.

Multidisciplinary team of experts is part of the board

The Scientific Advisory Board is made up of a team of renowned scientists in different areas of knowledge. Professionals such as Professor Carol Cleland (anomaly identification), Dr. Richard Cloete (data analysis and AI), Dr. Tim Gallaudet (oceanography) and Professor Garry Nolan (molecular biology and materials science) are part of the group. This diversity of specializations aims to ensure a comprehensive and rigorous approach to the study of phenomena. Council members are committed to assisting U.S. government agencies in uncovering the nature of UAPs and, at a minimum, strengthening national security.
