Nissan revealed the second generation of its Kicks SUV in Japan, adopting a different approach from that seen in the Brazilian market, where the launch of the new phase of the model is scheduled for 2025. While the national variant prioritizes traditional combustion engines, the Japanese edition surprises by exclusively offering the e-Power hybrid system, with front or all-wheel drive options, reflecting the electrification goals of the Asian market and the automaker’s global strategy for different markets.

This innovative drive system integrates a 1.4-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine, whose primary function is to act as a power generator, developing 98 horsepower for the lithium-ion battery. The electric motors are solely responsible for driving the wheels, creating a self-recharging hybrid that does not require external charging. The entry-level version has a 143 hp front electric motor, while the e-4ORCE all-wheel drive configurations incorporate an additional 68 hp electric motor at the rear. The automaker highlights that this new generation of engines is more than 10% more efficient compared to the previous one.

In terms of aesthetics, the Kicks destined for the Japanese market preserves a design very similar to the model sold in Brazil. The distinctions are manifested in particularities such as indicator lights with transparent lenses and the introduction of new shades for the bodywork, including Resonance Blue. The entry-level variants feature textured plastic exterior finishes, while the top-of-the-line G version comes equipped with more sophisticated LED lighting and 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Internally, the main change compared to the Americas version lies in the location of the steering wheel, which is positioned on the right in the Japanese model. The cabin features a panel with two 12.3-inch digital screens, complemented by features such as Zero Gravity seats, synthetic leather trim, a 100-volt socket for powering external devices and the ProPilot suite of driving assistance technologies, varying depending on the configuration chosen.

New Rock Creek variant reinforces the adventurous style

One of the biggest highlights of this new range is the introduction of the Rock Creek version. Created by the Nissan Motorsports & Customize team, this configuration is distinguished by a design with a greater inclination towards off-road, featuring silver grooves on the front grille, black details on the bumpers, crankcase protectors that simulate aluminum and wheels with an exclusive design. Inside, the model has waterproof seat coverings and lava red stitching.

The recently launched Kicks can now be purchased in Japan, with starting prices of approximately R$95,000 (equivalent to ¥2,999,700), reaching around R$135,000 (¥4,248,200) in the top-of-the-line G version with all-wheel drive. Rock Creek is scheduled to arrive in the coming months, with the first deliveries scheduled for the end of this year, and an estimated value of between R$127,000 and R$136,000 (¥4 million to ¥4.3 million).
