Arena Carioca 1 experienced an explosion of fans this June 21st. Rebeca Andrade once again shined on the apparatus that made her famous in Tokyo and won gold in the vault during the apparatus finals of the Rio 2026 Pan-American Artistic Gymnastics Championship.

The Olympic champion, who only competed in this event throughout the event, delivered precise executions that guaranteed first place. With the support of the fans who filled the gym at the Olympic Park, Rebeca ended her participation with an impeccable performance, reinforcing her status as the greatest Olympic medalist in Brazilian history.

The return to competition, after a sabbatical period that lasted almost two years since Paris 2024, had already been marked by a team silver in the qualifying phase. Now, in the individual jump decision, the Flamengo gymnast confirmed her favoritism and climbed to the highest place on the podium.

Gradual return marks a new phase

Rebeca opted for a cautious schedule, prioritizing the jump — a device with less impact on the body — for this first appearance. The strategy allowed her to return with confidence and immediate results, also contributing to the women’s team in the team competition.

The competition in Rio serves as an important qualifier for the 2026 Gymnastics World Cup in the Netherlands. With the gold medal in diving, Rebeca and Brazil increase their chances of places and keep the country among the powers of the Americas.

Other Brazilians also shone in this Sunday’s finals, with names like Júlia Soares, Arthur Nory, Caio Souza and Diogo Soares ensuring their presence on the podium in different devices. The national delegation confirmed the good moment of Brazilian gymnastics at home.

What lies ahead

The Pan-American Championships closes a preparation cycle that mixes veteran experience with team renewal. Para Rebeca, o ouro representa não apenas um título continental, mas a confirmação de que o corpo e a mente estão prontos para desafios maiores no ciclo olímpico rumo a Los Angeles 2028.
