With the 2026 NBA Draft approaching, conjecture about the potential selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round intensifies, approaching closure.
After overcoming a 3-1 deficit and surprising the Boston Celtics in the playoffs, the Sixers’ journey last season had a frustrating outcome, culminating in their elimination against the New York Knicks, a team that would become NBA champions.
Now, all eyes turn to the first big decision from new 76ers president of basketball operations Mike Gansey. He will have the challenge of defining his strategy in the draft: reinforcing the current squad alongside veterans like Joel Embiid and Paul George, or investing in the future by looking for a new partner for promising guards Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.

Philadelphia 76ers draft pick position
The Philadelphia 76ers hold the 22nd overall pick in the draft, a position acquired in February through the trade that sent point guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 22nd pick in the 2026 Draft presents a strategic challenge for the team, as, historically, positions at the end of the first round are often used to select players with long-term development potential or specialists in specific roles, which will require careful evaluation by the new president of operations to align with the franchise’s vision.
In the same deal, the Philadelphia franchise guaranteed the acquisition of three future second-round picks, with the transaction involving McCain also mentioning the 16th overall pick in the 2024 Draft.
In turn, the Thunder hold the 17th overall pick, the result of a previous salary relief negotiation that took place in 2020, which transferred center Al Horford from Philadelphia to the Oklahoma City team.
