Comedian and actor Moshe Kasher, known for his roles in productions such as “The Pitt” and “Zoolander 2”, publicly announced his diagnosis of tonsil cancer and a positive result for HPV. He has already undergone a surgical procedure to remove the tumor.
In a post made on Sunday, June 21, on his Instagram account, the 46-year-old artist detailed that he discovered a nodule in his tonsil three months ago. At the time, he was in Savannah, Georgia, involved in the production of Judd Apatow and Glen Powell’s new film, “The Comeback King”, a project that, according to him, “will be incredible”, contrary to the diagnosis.
Kasher clarified that the surgery to excise the tumor was performed on Friday at Cedars Sinai hospital. He highlighted that the type of cancer diagnosed has a considerably high cure rate, a common characteristic in oropharyngeal tumors associated with HPV, which tend to respond better to treatments.
“This was the scariest, most consciously consuming experience of my entire life,” Kasher expressed of the period. He described his days as a mixture of “terror, meditation, tears and medical planning”, in addition to long twelve-hour days on the film set, where he continued to come up with jokes.
Director Judd Apatow, who Kasher described as “kind, supportive and welcoming,” left a message of support in the comments of his post.
“You couldn’t be a kinder, stronger, funnier person. Heal quickly and easily,” Apatow wrote, showing his affection.
Other well-known names in comedy, such as Chelsea Handler, Nikki Glaser and Patton Oswalt, also sent their wishes for a speedy recovery to their colleague.
