Rockstar confirms that GTA 6 will have a physical version with disc after digital release
Rockstar Games has addressed recent criticism regarding the physical disc release of Grand Theft Auto 6, indicating that a boxed edition will be available at a later date. The initial expectations of fans, who were waiting for the game on physical media, gave way to questions.
The developer addressed questions about the absence of a disc in the physical edition of GTA 6, suggesting the possibility of a physical version hitting the market in the future. Furthermore, a source close to the gaming industry points out that the disc copy of Grand Theft Auto 6 could be released in December 2026, months after the game’s initial debut.
Game producer signals that physical copy of GTA 6 will be available later
The reveal of GTA 6’s pre-order bonuses generated great excitement, which was quickly overshadowed by the controversy surrounding its physical edition. Many players expressed frustration upon discovering that Grand Theft Auto 6 would not include a disc in the box. Now, Rockstar Games appears to have responded to the complaints, although the response may not be what the public expected.
Rockstar Games has said that a physical disc version of GTA 6 will be offered “in the coming months.” After pre-sales of the title began, the publisher sent a support email to customers who sought information about the physical format. The message read: “Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support. Please be advised that the current pre-order is for a digital upgrade only; you will be able to purchase a physical copy in the coming months.”
It is important to consider that support communication from Rockstar Games may have been automatically generated. The language of the email also appears to be somewhat ambiguous. It’s not clear whether “available over the next few months” refers to a period after the official launch, or whether a disc version will be offered before November 19th, the game’s arrival date. The email, in fact, does not explicitly mention “disk”, but rather “physical copy”. To date, this is Rockstar Games’ only official position on the matter.
Informant predicts release of the physical edition of GTA 6 with disc in December 2026
Interestingly, the Polish portal PPE.pl also reported that a physical disc version of GTA 6 will be released in December 2026. In a recent article, the publication stated: “GTA 6 will be sold with a code in the box only at launch, and then we will receive a normal boxed version of the game – with a disc containing data that will allow us to play GTA 6 without having to register a key/access to our PlayStation or Xbox account.”
What gives this information special weight is its origin. According to PPE.pl, the data comes from insider Graczdari, who had already anticipated in March 2026 the news that GTA 6 would not have a physical disc at launch. At the time, the information was met with skepticism, but the tipster was proven correct when Rockstar Games confirmed the disc’s absence. This prior credibility from insider Graczdari adds an element of value to the news, transforming what would be a simple rumor into a more concrete possibility for players who are eager for the physical media version.
With Rockstar Games sending support messages pointing to the future availability of a physical edition of GTA 6, part of the gaming community began to give more credence to the leak. However, it is prudent to remain cautious. While the Polish tipster has been right in the past on the puck issue, his overall track record of predictions is inconsistent. Additionally, support emails can sometimes be automated responses. The most sensible thing to do is wait for a clearer official statement from Rockstar Games on its website.
