Brazilian team carries out first training session for the World Cup knockout stage, saving eight starting players against Japan
The Brazilian team resumed its activities this Friday (26) after a day of rest, securing its place in the knockout phase of the World Cup. Aimed at the confrontation with Japan, their opponent in the round of 16, the Brazilian team had only three of the starters from the game against Scotland on the field: Vinicius Jr., Douglas Santos and Rayan.
The other athletes considered starters, such as Alisson, Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhães, Casemiro, Bruno Guimarães, Lucas Paquetá and Matheus Cunha, participated in physical preparation sessions at the training center’s gym in New Jersey, as part of a load control program.
Neymar, who had returned to the national team and came on during the second half of the match against the Scottish team, joined the rest of the squad in the afternoon’s work.
In addition to the rested players, striker Raphinha also remained off the field this Friday. He continues to recover from a muscle injury to the back of his right thigh, which occurred on June 19, in the game against Haiti.
There is an expectation that the player can be reinstated to the team and be available to play in a possible round of 16 match.
The Brazilian team will return to the field for another training session this Saturday (27), at the Columbia Park Training Center, located in Morristown, in the state of New Jersey.
The decisive clash between Brazil and Japan is scheduled for next Monday (29), being the first of three clashes of the day, in a match where a “supercomputer” already points to Brazil as the big favorite.
The ball will start rolling at 2pm (Brasília time), at NRG Stadium, in Houston, in the United States. The game broadcast will be available on CazéTV, at no additional cost, and also on Disney+.
This will be the sixth game hosted by NRG Stadium, which usually serves as the venue for Houston Texans NFL matches.
