The death of Rodrigo Pantaleão, a lawyer known for having accepted his own client’s conviction in an investigation hearing, was confirmed this Thursday (25) in Florianópolis. The Civil Police authorities began an investigation to clarify the details surrounding his death, a fact that generated great repercussion in the legal community due to the professional’s unusual attitude.

According to Deputy Alex Bonfim, responsible for the Capital Homicide Police Station, the professional was found dead in the Itacorubi neighborhood. The discovery came after local residents reported a strong smell coming from a property. The direction of the investigation has not yet been publicly detailed.

Preliminary information suggests that the lawyer’s death had occurred several days before the body was found at his residence. No signs of a break-in were identified in the property, and the body did not show any signs of injury.

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in Santa Catarina released an official statement, stating that it has already taken the necessary measures with the police authorities. The institution ensured full monitoring of the investigations by its Section.

A video recording of the virtual session, dated May 28, shows the moment in which the defender corroborates the complaint presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office against the person he represented. The audiovisual material has gained wide repercussion on social media in recent weeks.

During the incident, magistrate Carolina Ranzolin declared that the defendant did not have an adequate defense.

The recording images show Pantaleão using his cell phone while prosecutor Raul Rogério Rabello presented his argument. He looks at the camera only when the judge calls him to speak and conclude the case’s allegations.

The lawyer declared: “The defense confirms the statements made by the prosecutor. Nothing more, your honor.”
