Boca Juniors have resumed negotiations with San Lorenzo in their quest to sign Colombian defender Jhohan Romaña. Officials at the La Ribera club, as it turns out, consider this the last attempt to close the deal with their Argentine rival.

Meanwhile, the xeneize team continues with its preparation. Leandro Lozano is already participating in the pre-season and Álvaro Montero was officially appointed as the new goalkeeper, signaling an active transfer market. Juan Román Riquelme, in turn, maintains a firm interest in Jhohan Romaña and plans a new proposal for San Lorenzo.

The blue and gold club did not accept the first refusal to its offer of three million euros, leading to a new dialogue between the associations to reactivate negotiations. Boca’s intention is to increase the value of the proposal in a modest way, without reaching the termination clause stipulated at five million euros, thus seeking to reconcile the demands of San Lorenzo, which already envisages the departure of one of its main athletes due to the termination of his contractual relationship at the end of the year.

San Lorenzo faces dilemma with Jhohan Romaña’s future amid Boca’s new proposal

Given this scenario, San Lorenzo finds itself in a delicate situation. The Colombian defender shows no intention of extending his contract, although he is not forcing an immediate exit. The club’s managers, who hold half of the athlete’s economic rights, are aware of the political impact of giving up a key player to a traditional competitor, but they also consider the risk of losing him at no cost in December if there is no agreement now.

With this, Boca Juniors finalizes the details of a new proposal, which is presented as the final offer before abandoning negotiations. The situation generated a certain optimism, albeit cautiously, behind the scenes at La Ribera, especially as the board seeks to meet coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s desire for an experienced defender to strengthen the team.

An additional aspect that complicates Romaña’s possible move to Boca Juniors is the impediment of San Lorenzo’s assets. Currently, the club has a debt with an investment fund in Switzerland, which could retain the amounts from a possible transfer between the teams. To overcome this bureaucratic barrier and guarantee the completion of the deal, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) would have to intervene, ensuring that the amount of the transaction was transferred through its own accounts, preventing blocking by the European entity. This complex financial-legal issue would be one of the points to be resolved if a consensus is reached between the clubs.
