More than 28 years have passed since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released on the Nintendo 64, establishing itself as one of the most acclaimed games of all time. Since its debut, the classic has already received a version for 3DS in 2011 and is available on Nintendo Switch Online, but expectations for a complete remake have always been high.

Even though the gaming landscape in 2026 has been marked by uncertainty, the long-awaited remake of Ocarina of Time promises to be a highlight. With launch scheduled for this year, many questions still surrounded the project. However, the recent leak of a possible price has generated concern among enthusiasts of the beloved Zelda series.

Possible value of Ocarina of Time remake revealed

The PlayAsia platform has apparently already made a pre-order page available for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, initially listed at a price of US$59.99. Although Nintendo has not officially confirmed this price, it is essential to treat the information with caution. Stores often use provisional prices, and the final cost may be different when pre-sales open. Even so, the online community quickly spread the news as a fait accompli. This price, if confirmed, could be Nintendo’s strategy to make a classic title more accessible in a market where new releases often exceed this price range.

In a period where US$80 has become the standard for most current releases, Nintendo has already faced criticism for games like Mario Kart World being sold at this price. Without entering into judgment about the company’s pricing policy, the arrival of titles like GTA VI with the same price raises discussions about the pricing of the Japanese giant’s games.

Given this, the prospect of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a game of massive scope, being released for the Switch 2 for just $60, could be seen as a significant benefit for players.

Considering that Star Fox, a remake of Star Fox 64, was released at the same price in 2026, Nintendo may be ushering in a promising new trend. Others interpret this relatively low cost as indicative of important internal decisions.

Player expectations for improvements to The Legend of Zelda

The trailer for the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time didn’t reveal many details, except for a cinematic that displays a notably different visual style from the 1998 original. The $60 price tag has led some skeptics to speculate that the new version may just be a modest graphical upgrade, similar to the controversial Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Take-Two Interactive has been widely criticized for selling a buggy product with low-quality AI-enhanced textures for $60.

It’s hard to imagine Nintendo repeating a similar mistake, especially with hopes of a complete modernization. It would be inconsistent to release a trailer with a visual style different from what will actually be delivered in the final game.

There are those who expect even more, dreaming of an expansion of the story, new side missions and a richer version of the Castle City. For these fans, such requests would not be exaggerated.

He added: “I’ve put countless hours into the original for decades. I don’t want them to ‘improve’ the parts that made it special. Would I be wrong to want a faithful, high-fidelity update rather than a more expensive version that waters down the essence?”

Another player commented: “Breath of the Wild cost $60 and was not an effortless game. In my opinion, people care too much about prices.”

On Reddit, the concern was palpable, with one outraged reviewer declaring, “If it’s a remake and not a remaster, great; if it’s a remaster, screw it.”

Another person raised the issue: “If it’s just an identical recreation with improved graphics, I see no reason to buy it. I sincerely hope the price isn’t indicative of that.”

Ocarina of Time’s enduring legacy ensures that the game will have a high volume of sales, regardless of the level of improvements and enhancements implemented.

If Nintendo delivers a project as ambitious as some imagine, it will be a new major triumph for the company, while Sony and Microsoft continue to face significant criticism in the market.
