Obsidian studio develops new Fallout game amid Xbox restructuring
Obsidian Entertainment is developing a new title in the acclaimed Fallout franchise, under the direction of Josh Sawyer, as revealed by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier. This initiative is part of Xbox’s recent restructuring, which involved the cancellation of the sequel to Avowed and the dismissal of approximately 25% of the studio’s employees.
Josh Sawyer, responsible for directing Fallout: New Vegas, the only main game in the series produced outside Bethesda Game Studios in the last two decades, will be the leader of this new project. Bethesda, which owns the rights to the series and has not released a new title since Fallout 76 in 2018, will cooperate with Obsidian during the development process.

Obsidian studio records layoffs after announcing new strategy
The sequel to the game Avowed, which was in an advanced stage and close to being announced, has been discontinued. The decision is in line with the new strategy of Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who, on Monday, July 6, announced a cut of 3,200 jobs and the separation of five studios from the group.
With tens of millions of copies sold and an acclaimed hit series on the Amazon platform, which is already in its third season of recording, the Fallout franchise demonstrates enormous potential. This scenario reinforces the company’s decision to focus its efforts on the most robust and impactful intellectual properties.
