Brothers Joe and Andrew Fender, known for developing the acclaimed independent hit DEVOUR, in collaboration with publisher Future Friends Games, announced the official release date for Sunset Summit on July 27, 2026. This new cooperative climbing game will be available from August 21 on the Steam platform, inviting groups of up to eight players to overcome challenges and climb floating mountains.

Cooperative experience with challenging climbs

Sunset Summit offers a climbing experience designed for teams of 1 to 8 participants. The central proposal is to provide an uphill journey that, despite being challenging, remains accessible to everyone. One of the elements that contributes to this accessibility are frequent checkpoints, which minimize frustration by allowing players to recover quickly after possible falls.

During the adventure, climbers will have a variety of equipment available to assist their companions, such as climbing axes, ropes, drones for delivering items, pogo sticks and other useful resources. In case of a fall, the return to climbing is almost immediate, starting from the last checkpoint reached, ensuring fluidity in the game.

The game features several manually created routes, which allows players to explore different paths and strategies to overcome obstacles. The main objective is to reach the top of each mountain before sunset, adding a layer of urgency to the exploration.

Diverse tools and communication for teamwork

During the game, groups of up to eight friends will need to combine their equipment and work in total cooperation to achieve success on the climbs. Communication between participants will be facilitated through a proximity chat and walkie-talkies integrated into the game.

Among the confirmed features are:

  • Cooperative climbing for up to eight players;
  • Frequent checkpoints to reduce the penalty for falls;
  • Use of ropes and drones to deliver supplies;
  • Unusual tools such as pills, pogo sticks and umbrellas;
  • Internal camera to document the journey;
  • Multiple routes available to reach the summit;
  • Offline solo mode for individual training or exploration;
  • Nearby chat and walkie-talkies for effective communication.

In addition to climbing, players will have the opportunity to travel in hot air balloons, which will allow them to explore floating islands and discover ancient mountains distributed throughout the scene.

Release scheduled for August on Steam

Joe Fender revealed that the Sunset Summit project began in 2021, shortly after the release of DEVOUR, motivated by his desire to explore genres other than horror. He explained the game’s development path:

“After releasing DEVOUR, I started working on Sunset Summit in 2021 because I wanted to move away from the horror genre. But by 2023, I was burnt out and wasn’t sure if a first-person co-op climbing game would garner interest. And guess what? Then PEAK came out, and after its success, I felt it was worth completing Sunset Summit. I’m proud to share this mix of my favorite things: co-op games, climbing, and megastructures, and I hope people enjoy it.”
