WhatsApp Web gains audio and video calls for PC
On November 28th, Meta implemented a series of innovative features for calls. The main highlight is the inclusion of the ability to make calls directly through the web version of WhatsApp, marking an important step towards the integration of communication across different platforms and improving users’ flexibility on their devices.
This functionality allows users to initiate and receive audio and video conversations, both individually and in groups, using WhatsApp Web. Users do not need to install additional programs to access these options. The update also integrates tools already known from the mobile application, such as screen sharing, quick reactions and a complete call history.
All communications carried out via the web are protected by end-to-end encryption, guaranteeing the privacy of conversations. Furthermore, calls do not impose any duration limit or additional costs on users.

The messenger also introduced the option to transfer ongoing group calls between mobile devices, such as tablets or cell phones, to the computer and vice versa. This transition occurs fluidly, without the need to disconnect and reconnect to the conversation.

Another relevant addition is the virtual waiting room. When you create a link for a call and enable the “Require approval to join” setting, guests who access the link will be directed to a waiting area until they are given permission to join the call.
Meta also announced other improvements, such as the Quick HD feature, which makes it possible to display videos in high definition in the initial moments of connection. Additionally, there is a new ambient noise suppression function, which eliminates unwanted background sounds during conversations.
The company informed that the launch of these new features will occur progressively and that, in the near future, all features will be accessible to all users of the platform.
