Jason Statham conquers streaming with action thriller inspired by John Wick and Taken

Actor Jason Statham continues to be a strong name in the world of action films, with his formula of an indestructible character who faces criminals without hesitation. One of his most recent projects, “A Working Man”, mixes elements from franchises such as “John Wick” and “The Taken”, resulting in a 116-minute film that has established itself as one of the great recent successes on streaming platforms.

Film “A Working Man” marks Statham’s second partnership with action film icon

In the feature film “A Working Man”, Statham takes on the role of Levon Cade, a former British commander who tries to start his life over in the United States, leaving behind a past marked by violence. Working in construction, Cade developed strong ties with the Garcia family, who manage the company and are aware of his post-traumatic stress disorder.

When Jenny, Joe and Carla Garcia’s daughter, is kidnapped by the Russian mafia, the family sees no other way but to seek Cade’s help. Initially reluctant, he decides to act motivated by the good treatment he received, embarking on a rescue mission with the support of Gunny Lefferty, a former Marine and his closest ally.

The script for “A Working Man” is based on the book series “Levon’s Trade”, by Chuck Dixon, which follows the protagonist in several risky situations. The direction was in charge of David Ayer, who also collaborated on the script with Sylvester Stallone. This production represents the second time that Statham and Stallone have worked together, the first project being “Homefront”, originally planned as a sequel to “Rambo”.

Follow the repercussion and performance of “A Working Man” on digital platforms

The film, which premiered in March 2025, had a journey with title changes and a postponement of the cinematic release, which was scheduled for January 2025. With a production budget of US$40 million, “A Working Man” grossed US$89 million globally. Despite not having won over critics, registering just 46% on Rotten Tomatoes, the public rating was significantly more positive, reaching 87%. This disparity of opinion reflects the film’s strong connection with Statham’s fan base.

The success with the public is reflected in the current streaming listings. The film was among the most sought after titles on MGM+, where it ranks eighth, just below productions such as “Project Hail Mary” and the horror series “From”.

Regarding Prime Video statistics, “A Working Man” achieved an even more prominent placement. The About Amazon website revealed the list of the ten most watched films on the platform between July 13th and 19th, where Jason Statham’s thriller appeared in fourth place. Interestingly, “The Beekeeper”, another film starring Statham, also appeared on the list, in seventh position. Although exact viewing figures are not disclosed, the robust presence of the action genre is evident among the most popular content on Prime Video.
