Nissan Motor released its consolidated financial statements for the period from April to June on July 3, 2026, revealing a net profit of 3.761 billion yen. This result represents an important turnaround, considering the net loss of 115.758 billion yen recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.

The Japanese automaker returns to profitability in the second quarter, marking its first profit in two years for the April-June period. The recovery in results was driven mainly by the reduction in tariffs applied in the United States and the devaluation of the yen against other currencies. Despite a drop in overall global sales volume, the company saw significant growth in strategic markets such as Japan, the United States and China.

Driving factors and operational performance

Operating profit, the main indicator of business performance, reached 77.889 billion yen, reversing a loss of 79.124 billion yen recorded in the same period of the previous year. The reduction in American tariffs on vehicles, established by an agreement between Japan and the United States, generated savings of approximately 80 billion yen. Currency swings, including the devaluation of the yen, also added 35 billion yen to profits. Furthermore, the optimization of the composition of models sold and the continuous containment of expenses were decisive for the good performance.

Sales revenue totaled 2.9642 trillion yen this quarter, representing growth of 9.5% compared to the same range in 2025.

Nissan’s restructuring progress and prospects

The automaker had launched a comprehensive restructuring plan in May last year, aimed at recovering its operations. During a press conference, president Ivan Espinosa detailed that the company managed to reduce costs by 60 billion yen in the April-June quarter alone. Espinosa stated: “We are seeing clear signs of progress in restructuring the business. Our cost-cutting initiatives are progressing as planned, towards the established goals.”
