Samsung’s August update brings 56 security fixes for the Galaxy line
Samsung released, on August 4, 2026, the details of its Monthly Security Maintenance (SMR) for the month of August. The latest package includes 56 vulnerability fixes, affecting both the Android operating system and the company’s One UI interface. The update will be released progressively for compatible Galaxy devices.
This set of improvements covers the resolution of flaws discovered by both Google engineers and the South Korean manufacturer’s own development team.

In the security bulletin, 38 of the fixed vulnerabilities are related to the core of the Android system. Of these, Google categorized eight as “Reviews” and another thirty as “High” level.
Samsung reported that one of the flaws present in the August Android security bulletin had already been previously resolved in previous versions of its software. Additionally, the company clarified that eight other vulnerabilities identified by Google do not apply to Galaxy devices, due to differences in their architectures or components.
The protection suite also incorporates 18 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE). These fixes aim to reduce the risks of attacks such as local intrusion, remote code execution and improper physical access on devices operating with Android 14, Android 15 and Android 16.

Some of the key improvements focused on Samsung’s One UI interface include:
- Gallery and UI adjustments: Fixed a vulnerability in Galaxy Themes that allowed attackers with physical access to perform arbitrary actions on the device.
- Improvements in communication applications: closure of flaws in Samsung Contacts that could lead to the deletion of files with application permissions or access to data in different user profiles. Adjustments have also been made to the Samsung Dialer to protect against unauthorized access to SIM chip features.
- Enhanced data security: resolved a flaw in SemClipboardService that exposed clipboard history to local attacks, as well as optimizations in App Lock to prevent third parties from bypassing its security check.
- Codec and media optimizations: Improvements have been made to the VC1 and MPEG4 media components, located in the libsavsvc.so library, to eliminate write failures that exceed memory limits.
- System and hardware adjustments: an access control was adjusted in the Weaver component to prevent the device from completely crashing, and a buffer overflow correction was implemented in the libril_sem.so library.
The distribution of the update will occur in phases, varying depending on the geographic region. It is quite likely that it will start with the Galaxy S26 line models, and later reach other compatible high-end and mid-range devices. To check package availability, users can manually access the options: Settings, followed by Software Update, and finally Download and Install.
