A unique occurrence mobilized the Dade City Police Department in Florida on July 27, when officers were called to deal with an escaped emu. The capture of the animal, a large bird, happened quickly, “before the coffee even had a chance to take effect”, according to the corporation’s amusing report. This type of call differs greatly from the usual occurrences of a police force.

Through its social networks, the Dade City Police Department reported that its officers responded to a request in the morning about an emu that “decided it was the perfect day for a walk around the city”, describing the situation in a relaxed manner.

In the published publication, which reflected the police officers’ actions, the corporation shared: “Before the coffee even had a chance to take effect… the dispatch center sent us on an emu hunt.” O tom humorístico permeou toda a comunicação oficial.

The operation to capture the bird was successful, and the agents managed to contain the emu without any injuries to people or the animal itself, ensuring the safety of everyone involved in the incident.

In a joking tone, the police mocked the unusual nature of the mission, commenting on the officers’ preparation for different situations: “We train for many things… but ‘chasing an emu’ was not part of the academy’s curriculum,” the corporation wrote in its post.

The original police post included photographic records of the Australian bird sitting in the back of a police vehicle, shortly after being rescued from the city’s streets.
