Civil Police arrested 43-year-old Alan da Silva Marques on the 9th after he stole an unoccupied passenger bus from the Setor O transit terminal in Ceilândia and steered the large vehicle in a zigzag pattern across Via Estrutural in Distrito Federal. The suspect seized control of the steering wheel while wearing medical patient clothing and carrying a packed meal container in his hands.
Reckless maneuvers on oncoming lanes endangered expressway traffic
During the pursuit along the expressway, the driver steered the runaway bus across the central reservation into oncoming traffic lanes, narrowly missing multiple oncoming passenger cars and placing a woman walking along the road shoulder in severe danger, according to the official incident report registered by the Civil Police of Distrito Federal.
Civil Police investigators followed the stolen bus along the highway for several minutes until the suspect abandoned the steering wheel while the vehicle remained in motion. He jumped through the window. Officers immediately cordoned off the surrounding perimeter and subdued the suspect directly on the roadway asphalt.
Prior truck theft arrest preceded escape from regional hospital
Two days prior to this highway incident, on the 7th, authorities had arrested Alan da Silva Marques after catching him in the act of stealing a cargo truck in the Samambaia region. A local judge authorized his release during a custody hearing, leading to his medical admission at Hospital Regional de Taguatinga, where he remained until slipping away in patient garments on the 9th.
Internal surveillance cameras operating inside the Setor O transit bus recorded the precise moment when Marques entered the passenger vehicle holding the food container.
