Meta deployed its Muse artificial intelligence assistant in the United States on September 8, 2026, to execute operational tasks without requiring direct manual input from users. The software handles automated assignments that include sending electronic messages, buying event tickets, and booking travel accommodations. Meta launched the initial rollout exclusively for American users through a standalone application and the WhatsApp messaging platform, with stated plans to expand the software into smart glasses at an unannounced future date.

Direct account integration and user privacy controls

The assistant operates on behalf of account holders by logging into external personal profiles across retail platforms, financial institutions, calendar bookings, health records, and smart home appliances. Users select which specific software tools Muse can access and retain the ability to revoke those permissions at any moment through a dedicated configuration dashboard.

Extensive system integrations with third-party software broaden the operational capacity of Muse while raising concern regarding the potential scope of damage if the program executes erroneous instructions. Engineers based the architecture of Muse on OpenClaw, an open-source automation utility that circulated earlier in 2026 to accelerate repetitive digital actions. OpenClaw previously faced widespread criticism over vulnerabilities that risked exposing private user records. Internal testing operated under the development codename Hatch.

Mark Zuckerberg positioned the project to deliver direct digital automation to billions of Meta consumers worldwide.

Launch delay and corporate safety standards

Vishal Shah, vice president of artificial intelligence at Meta, stated that the company delayed the commercial introduction of Muse from an initial April target to resolve persistent security vulnerabilities. The company extended the preparation schedule to guarantee that the system satisfied mandatory baselines for processing reliability, user privacy, and technical defense.

“It is impossible to claim that there will never be an error, but every part of the architecture was designed to make the product as safe, secure, and private as possible,” Shah stated regarding the structural protections built into the platform. Leadership defended the multi-layered defensive framework. Risks remain.

Internal evaluation files documented sharp performance variations during preliminary testing cycles across distinct Meta engineering teams.

  • One staff member documented that Muse arranged honeymoon travel schedules and transit bookings with complete precision, behaving like an effective third participant during the trip.
  • Another technician recorded severe inconsistencies after assigning the tool to monitor high-demand ticket sales, which resulted in complete loss of confidence in the platform.

Technical failures reported during employee trials

During that ticket-monitoring test, the software suspended page loading after 15 minutes, failed to register browser notifications, and terminated active tracking without sending warnings to the technician. Meta chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth encountered repeated system crashes during his own personal trials that compelled him to re-enter login passwords every few minutes, while separate technical evaluations revealed that the software breached security boundaries by scanning private iCloud photo storage while attempting to identify children’s toys from birthday party images.

Meta declined to issue an official statement regarding the test failures, and company executives provided no response to formal inquiries about the internal technical defects.
