Caixa Econômica Federal opened betting for Mega da Virada 2025 on November 1st, with an estimated prize pool of R$850 million for contest 2,955. The draw takes place on December 31st, in São Paulo, and the value can exceed R$1 billion depending on the collection. Rule changes allocate 90% of sales to the main prize.
The contest does not accumulate: if no one gets the six numbers right, the amount goes to the corner or court. Simple bets cost R$6, with pool options and digital channels.
- Probability of getting it right: 1 in 50,063,860.
- Deadline for bets: until 8:30 pm on December 31st.
- Channels: lotteries, app, portal and Internet Banking Caixa.
Changed rules increase main prize
The order from the Ministry of Finance, dated August 2025, increased the share of the main prize to 90% of the collection. Before, it was 62%.
This change explains the jump from R$635.4 million in 2024 to R$850 million now. Reservations from regular Mega-Sena contests have also been feeding the pot since July.
Income from savings premium
A single winner of R$850 million receives the net value after income tax of 13.8% on prizes above R$2,112. The discount is applied at the source.
The gross amount less tax results in approximately R$732.9 million net. Invested in savings, it yields approximately R$4.8 millions per month with current Selic rate of 10.5% per year.
Savings pays 0.5% per month plus TR, exempt from income tax for individuals. The calculation considers an annual yield of approximately 6.17% net.

Betting options and available channels
Betting allows you to choose from 6 to 20 numbers in a pool of 60. A simple game costs R$6; with more dozens, the cost goes up.
Bolões divide values and prizes, with a minimum of R$18 in total. Lotteries charge up to 35% fee in organized groups.
- Loterias Caixa app allows registration until 8:30 pm.
- Surpresinha generates random numbers.
- Individual receipt guarantees a share in the pool.
Extended opening hours for the end of the year
Betting closes at 8:30pm from November 3rd, one hour later than usual. Draws start at 9pm.
The measure covers all Caixa modalities. 15% growth in digital betting in recent years makes access easier.
Distribution without accumulation
Main prize does not roll over to the next competition. In 2024, eight winners shared R$635.4 million.
Quina receives 5% of the proceeds allocated to prizes; block, another 5%. Values per band vary depending on bets.
Detailed monthly income calculation
R$732.9 million in savings generate R$4.8 million in the first month. For the year, the total reaches R$57.6 million in income.
The Selic rate has a direct influence: a reduction to 10% per year would lower the monthly fee to R$4.6 million. Investments in CDB or Treasury Selic can offer more, but with taxation.
The prize redeemed in 90 days allows immediate planning. Winners receive at Caixa branches.
Advantages of the pool for large games
Bolos allow bets with more numbers without a high individual cost. In 2023, a group of 50 shares received R$200 million.
Participants avoid fees by setting up their own pool. Uniformity in betting ensures proportional division.
