Samuele Inácio, 18-year-old striker from Borussia Dortmund and son of former Brazilian player Inácio Piá, received his 1st call-up to the Italian national team. The young man was called up by interim coach Silvio Baldini for the June friendlies against Luxemburgo and Grécia. “Present”, wrote the attacker on social media after confirming his participation.

The call-up marks the beginning of the Italian reconstruction after the team was left out of the Copa of the 2026 Mundo for the 3rd consecutive edition. Baldini brought together a predominantly young list, with an average age of 20 years, for commitments against teams that will also not be present at the world tournament.

Trajetória of Samuele and the choice for Itália

Samuele was born into Itália and built his entire training in the European country’s youth categories. Mesmo observed by Confederação Brasileira of Futebol in recent years due to dual nationality, he chose to follow the Italian path exclusively. Sua pick was recently consolidated into Mundial Sub-17, where he served as Itália’s number 10.

In the Sub-17 competition, the young man directly faced Brasil in the dispute for 3rd place. The Italians won the match and Samuele gained prominence for his performance, which has now resulted in him being called up to the main team. Pessoas close to the player indicate that his preference is to continue defending Itália in the future.

A particularity of Samuele’s development illustrates his European trajectory: he speaks better English than Portuguese, a reflection of his training in a continental and non-Brazilian context.

June Amistosos and definition of nationality

The two games against Luxemburgo (June 3) and Grécia (June 7) will be friendly, with no official definition of sporting nationality. Tecnicamente, this means that Samuele could still defend Seleção Brasileira in official competitions in the future.

Contudo, the expectation is that the athlete will continue at Itália. The call-up represents a significant step in his still-forming career in elite European football.

Italian Reconstrução with young promises

Baldini’s list reflects a profound renewal process for the Italian team. Entre the names called up are promising figures in European football, such as Francesco Camarda, considered one of Itália’s greatest recent jewels. Donnarumma is practically the only athlete with consolidated experience on the main squad.

Itália continues in transition after a frustrated campaign in Eliminatórias and Copa in 2026. The return to the main competition will still depend on structured reconstruction and development of the young talents called up now.
