Reports that filming for “The Last of Us” had been canceled stemmed from a misunderstanding. NJ.com reported that a directory tracking active television productions in British Columbia indicated that filming on the series was on hiatus, but sources close to the production told The Times that the temporary pause from June 1 to June 28 was fully on schedule.

The scheduled interruption is due to local preparations for the World Cup. FIFA World Cup matches in Vancouver take place from June 13th to July 7th. All seven matches will be held at BC Place Stadium.

Filming for Season 3 of “The Last of Us” began in March and is scheduled to continue until the end of November. Last year, HBO and Max president and CEO of content Casey Bloys told Variety: “The series is definitely planned for 2027. Craig [Mazin] is still figuring out whether it will be two more seasons or one season long. It hasn’t been decided yet and I’m following Craig’s guidance on that.”

The second season served as an introduction to Kaitlyn Dever and her character, Abby. It ended with a calendar reset, which indicated that audiences will follow Abby through post-apocalyptic Seattle in Season 3.

Co-creators Mazin and Neil Druckmann confirmed that Dever will be the big star of the season.

“Our challenge now is to make you question whether you really hate Abby and maybe start to love her and then be confused,” Mazin told The Times last year. “Where do my loyalties lie? What is the concept of a hero? That requires an actress who can inspire those thoughts effortlessly, and we have that in Kaitlyn.”
