Harry Potter fans waiting for news about Hogwarts Legacy 2 have gained a game option in the wizarding universe. MinaLima, the studio responsible for the graphic design of the franchise’s films, announced Defenders of Hogwarts, a board RPG set at the wizarding school.
The game places participants in the period just before Lord Voldemort’s invasion of Hogwarts. The school has already been infiltrated by Death Eaters and Dark Forces, and each player must choose: defend their home or ally with the dark side to ensure Voldemort’s victory.
The experience involves honing sorcery skills, exploring the castle’s legendary grounds and laying the groundwork for the confrontation between good and evil. The title is described as an all-new tabletop adventure set in the wizarding world.
MinaLima brings film experience to the board
Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima, the duo behind iconic elements such as the Hogwarts Letter of Acceptance, the Marauder’s Map and the Daily Prophet in feature films, lead the visual project. The game’s design was designed by award-winning industrial designer David Waterman, in partnership with MinaLima and in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery.
It is MinaLima’s first board game in the Harry Potter universe. The team has already created other collectible products from the franchise, which reinforces fidelity to the visual style of the films.
How to play and what to expect
Defenders of Hogwarts supports 2 to 5 players, is recommended for people over 13 years old and each game should last up to 90 minutes — reaching up to 180 minutes in longer sessions, according to data from tabletop gaming platforms.
The project is not yet open for funding on Kickstarter, but interested parties can now sign up to receive launch notifications. The game appears listed as “coming soon” on official platforms.
Release schedule and context
The limited version is expected to arrive in autumn 2026 (northern hemisphere), with a global and multiple language release scheduled for spring 2027. The timing coincides with the 25th anniversary of the first film in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, released in 2001.
While Hogwarts Legacy 2 remains in initial development, with no confirmed date and possibly still a few years away, the new tabletop game appears as an alternative for fans to maintain engagement with the magical universe.
