A man has been arrested in the United Kingdom on attempted murder charges after a three-year-old child was rescued in a serious condition from a zoo’s crocodile enclosure. The shocking incident led to swift police action in Cambridgeshire.
Cambridgeshire county security forces reported that they were quickly called in on the 18th, at around 1:24 pm (local time), following reports that a boy had accessed the crocodile area at the establishment.
The child suffered serious injuries and was promptly taken to a hospital, where his clinical condition is considered critical, but stable. Specialized agents were assigned to provide support to the boy and his family, according to authorities.
The detained individual, a 30-year-old resident of Norfolk, is being investigated by the police, who initially believe there is no previous link between him and the child. The nature of the incident, involving a stranger and a child in a public space, raises questions about safety in environments frequented by families and the motivation behind the act.
In response to the events, the zoo administration announced the temporary closure of the wing dedicated to tropical animals, which houses the crocodiles, as a sign of respect for the family. The official statement expressed “deepest condolences to the boy and his family following the incident that occurred today.”
Ben Obesjekti, deputy representing the Huntington region, where the zoo is located, confirmed that the case is treated by law enforcement authorities very seriously, initiating a criminal investigation.
The parliamentarian used his account on platform X (formerly Twitter) to express solidarity with the boy and his family.
