A 27-year-old man is the main suspect of murdering and decapitating his own mother, in a brutal crime that occurred in the Nova Cachoeirinha neighborhood, northwest of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The victim, Jussara Maria Rodrigues, 54 years old, had her body found in her room inside a residential building this Monday morning (22).
The Civil Police of Minas Gerais confirmed the arrest of the victim’s son by the Military Police. Authorities reported that the causes and circumstances that led to Jussara’s death are under investigation.
Police actions and suspect’s confession
Jussara Maria Rodrigues’ son was located and detained by the Military Police after neighbors and family members reported him missing for three days. The individual’s family members reported that he had a history of schizophrenia and, as reported by the newspaper O Tempo, the man confessed to committing the crime.
After the arrest, the Civil Police reported that the suspect was immediately taken to a hospital, where he should receive the necessary medical care. Cases that involve a history of mental health problems, such as the alleged schizophrenia mentioned by family members, require an in-depth assessment to understand the complex nuances surrounding what happened and ensure appropriate treatment.
Sergeant Gleidson Wellys, in a statement to the newspaper O Tempo, detailed that the man offered no resistance when detained. He admitted the crime immediately when questioned: “The first thing we asked him was where his mother was. Then he said that he had killed her and that the body was in the room”, reported Sergeant Wellys.
Witnesses interviewed by neighboring military police officers stated that they heard the pleas of the victim, Jussara, who said: “Don’t do that, son, I love you”. The woman’s body was later taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) to undergo forensic examinations.
Official statement from the Civil Police on feminicide
The Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) issued a statement about the feminicide that occurred on Monday morning (22), in the Nova Cachoeirinha neighborhood, in Belo Horizonte. The corporation highlighted that technical expertise was on site to identify and collect all traces relevant to the investigation.
The body of Jussara Maria Rodrigues, mother of the individual identified as the perpetrator of the crime, was sent to the Instituto Médico-Legal Dr. André Roquette. There, he will undergo the necessary examinations to determine the facts.
PCMG also confirmed that the man was detained by the Military Police and subsequently taken to a hospital to receive medical attention. The corporation highlighted that the incident is still ongoing.
Authorities assured that the cause and all circumstances of death will be thoroughly investigated. New information will be released as judicial police work progresses.
