New information reveals the details of the re-release of *Avengers: Endgame*, with confirmation of the film’s arrival in theaters in September, bringing a different nomenclature and other new elements to the public.
The revised version will be known as *Avengers: Endgame Encore*. Disney, during the CineEurope event in Barcelona, announced that the return to the big screen will feature an exclusive introduction, never-before-shown sequences and an additional scene designed for screenings in Infinity Vision and IMAX.
The first announcement of these new contents was made by the Deadline portal.
The Infinity Vision certification, presented by Disney in April at CinemaCon, defines premium movie theaters with large dimensions, offering a broader, brighter and deeper experience, justifying the differentiated value of the re-release.
The date chosen for the world premiere of this special edition of *Avengers: Endgame* is September 25th. To date, the Infinity Vision seal has accumulated more than 7,500 expressions of interest from various cinema chains around the world seeking certification.
Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed *Avengers: Endgame*, are once again involved with the Marvel universe, now directing *Avengers: Judgment Day*, scheduled for December. In a statement at the Sands Film Festival in April, Joe Russo stated that the *Endgame* re-release will include “scenes that connect to the *Judgement* narrative.”
The director characterized this opportunity as creating a “unique bridge” between *Avengers: Endgame* and the next *Avengers: Judgment Day*. He also classified the new version as a “fundamental complementary story” and an “essential preparation for the audience that will watch *Avengers: Judgment Day* in December”, highlighting Marvel’s strategy of interconnecting its narrative phases in an immersive way.
Currently, *Avengers: Endgame* ranks as the second highest-grossing film of all time. After a close race for the top spot with James Cameron’s *Avatar*, a fall re-release in the northern hemisphere could propel it into the coveted top spot.
In *Avengers: Judgment Day*, Robert Downey Jr. will make his long-awaited return, taking on the role of supervillain Victor von Doom, known as Doctor Doom. This participation occurs even after the death of his iconic character Tony Stark/Iron Man, one of Marvel’s most beloved heroes, in the events of *Endgame*. The decision to cast an actor so associated with a hero to play a classic antagonist from the Marvel universe represents an audacious narrative maneuver for the upcoming films, exploring Downey Jr.’s versatility and the concept of the multiverse to introduce innovations.
“At that point, [Downey] was about to get the Oscar for *Oppenheimer* and all the news was talking about ‘the greatest actor in the world,’ so we thought, ‘This could be it. Let’s do it,'” Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, explained to Entertainment Weekly after CinemaCon. He added: “It’s our universe. It’s a multiverse. We can do whatever we want. He played the most iconic hero. Let’s have him play the most iconic villain.”
*Avengers: Judgment Day* also promises to bring together characters from three distinct universes: the main reality of the Avengers, the world portrayed in *Fantastic Four: First Steps* and that of the X-Men. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18th.
