User reports indicate problems with the functioning of WhatsApp across the country since Tuesday afternoon (23). Millions of people face difficulties using the service’s basic features, such as sending text messages and playing audio. The widespread outage affects the daily communication of a vast number of citizens.

The specialized website Downdetector, which monitors failures in digital services, points out that the first incidents in the messaging application began to appear at around 5:55 pm, following official Brasília time. However, a peak of more than 300 notifications was identified earlier, at 4:10 pm, signaling the expansion of problems.

Meta remains silent as failures impact services

Instability on WhatsApp is not an isolated case and is manifesting itself simultaneously on other Meta platforms, the applications’ controlling company. Instagram, one of the most used social networks, appears to be the most affected by the failures, with several reports of users unable to access it. In addition, Facebook also shows signs of operational problems, suggesting a broader issue in the company’s infrastructure that affects its main interconnected services.

Mix Vale’s journalism team contacted Meta’s advisors to obtain clarification on the cause and extent of the failures. To date, the company responsible for the applications has not issued any official statement or position regarding the interruption of services.
