The rivalry between the teams of Brazil and Scotland gained a chapter even before the ball rolled for the final round of the World Cup group stage this Wednesday (24). In Miami, the city that will host the decisive clash, Scottish fans displayed a provocative banner aimed at Brazilians, questioning Pelé’s relevance and praising striker Lyndon Dykes.
The controversial message makes direct mention of Lyndon Dykes, a 30-year-old player for the Scottish team, recognized for his imposing physical shape, serious posture and notable impact on the pitch. Although Dykes’ projection is far from the global dimension of Pelé, whose stature in world football is almost incomparable, the striker gained the trust of his compatriots during the tournament.
Lyndon Dykes’ journey: from Australia to Scotland uniform
Lyndon Dykes, even though he plays for the Scotland national team, has his origins in Australia, where he was born. His parents, of Scottish nationality, influenced a sporting journey that began with rugby, a sport he played before making the transition to football.
Due to his ancestry, Dykes chose to represent Scotland on the international football scene, making his debut in 2020. With the national team shirt, the striker has 52 appearances, registering 15 direct participations in goals, with ten goals scored and five passes to goal.
However, their performance at the World Cup has been modest so far. Dykes was used for just 34 minutes in the duels against Haiti and Morocco, and is still looking for his first goal in the competition.
The striker scored his most recent goal in October 2025 during the 3-1 victory against Greece. His last assist was recorded in May 2026, in the friendly in which Scotland beat Curaçao 4-1.
In his club career, Dykes spent last season between two teams in the English second division. He initially played 23 games for Birmingham City, where he scored two goals. He later transferred to Charlton Athletic, appearing in 20 games and contributing three goals and three assists.
Decisive game between Brazil and Scotland will determine the leadership of Group C
The match between the teams of Brazil and Scotland is scheduled for this Wednesday (24), starting at 7pm Brasília time, at the Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami. This clash will mark the end of the group stage for both teams in the World Cup.
Currently, the Brazilian team occupies the first position in the group with four points, equal to the Moroccans, but having an advantage in goal difference. The Scotland team is right behind, with three points, while Haiti remains at the bottom, with no points.
With the current situation of the table, a simple draw will guarantee the Brazilian team their place in the next phase of the competition.
