Apple prepares launch of foldable iPhone for September and should bring new features
Apple would be close to introducing its first device with a folding screen. The expectation is that the new iPhone will hit the market together with the iPhone 18 Pro line, during the company’s annual event, scheduled for the beginning of September.
According to journalist Mark Gurman, the company should hold its product reveal event on September 8th, with the 9th of the same month being an alternative considered in case of changes to the schedule.
Historically, the company has adopted the practice of announcing its iPhone models on the first Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor Day in the United States. This strategy allows sales to begin in September, ensuring that revenue is recorded in the last quarter of the fiscal year.
Among the new features presented, the big highlight expected for this event will be the launch of Apple’s first iPhone with a folding screen. The device represents a significant advance for the brand in the flexible smartphone segment.

Probable launch date for the foldable iPhone
Rumors indicate that a foldable iPhone model could be presented on September 8th.
Regarding manufacturing, Samsung Display has already started operating its production lines dedicated to flexible OLED screens, meeting Apple’s demand. Part of this initial process would be taking place in Vietnam to fulfill the first orders.
Supply chain sources report that Apple imposes high quality standards, with a minimum yield rate of 70% for finished products. Samsung Display would have exceeded this requirement, reaching a rate of more than 80% and already starting large-scale production.
For a period of three years, Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of foldable OLED screens to Apple. These new panels promise to optimize brightness, color accuracy and energy efficiency, thanks to the integration of CoE technology and the M16 OLED material set.

Regarding the design, the foldable iPhone is speculated to feature a main screen measuring approximately 7.8 inches when fully expanded. This size is close to the iPad mini, ideal for an enlarged viewing area for leisure and productivity.
The external screen, in turn, should be around 5.5 inches. Unlike the elongated format of current iPhone models, this screen will display a more square proportion, making the device, when closed, resemble a small notebook.
It is important to note that Apple may choose not to include the Face ID facial recognition system in this model. In its place, the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, integrated into the side power button, will likely be used for unlocking and authenticating payments.
