Restricting access to women in US Christian academia generates controversy
A recently opened gym in the United States, designed exclusively for men, sparked widespread discussion on social media and reignited debates about religion, gender equality and coexistence between men and women. The venture, called Proverbs 27:17 Fitness, opened in Oklahoma on July 29, 2026, with the aim of creating a training space focused on masculine Christian principles.
The creators of the initiative explained that the decision not to allow women to enter the place aims to eliminate distractions and what they call “temptations”, thus seeking an environment conducive to the physical and spiritual improvement of visitors.

The academy’s founder revealed that the idea for an exclusive space came from his own experiences, which involved overcoming adversity and strengthening his faith. The central proposal is to bring together men in a place that is fully in tune with religious values.
This conception of spaces segregated by gender is not new in the North American scene. There is another similar project, Remnant Men, which is scheduled to open in Denver next year. This future venture adopts the same premise, offering an exclusively male environment to practice physical exercise combined with Christian values. The existence of initiatives like Remnant Men contextualizes Proverbs 27:17 Fitness as part of a broader movement toward religiously and gender-aligned communities.
