The universe of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) remains at the center of an intense legal dispute. A New York District judge authorized, on August 20, 2026, the subpoenas filed by Take-Two Interactive against Microsoft and Discord, leading Scott Van Vliet, CTO of Xbox, to publicly confirm that the company is actively collaborating with the investigations to identify whoever is responsible for the game’s leaks.
Take-Two had formalized the requests in a New York federal court on the same date, with the aim of forcing both platforms to disclose data that could track the person or group behind the leaks, dubbed Cyberleek. With judicial validation, Microsoft and Discord now have a legal obligation to cooperate by providing account records, devices, and information stored in the cloud.
Microsoft and Discord required to provide data
Specifically for Microsoft, DMCA subpoenas require the provision of internal records, account details, connected services, IP addresses, unique device identifiers, and any pertinent OneDrive material that is associated with the investigated accounts.

Understand the monetization of leaks by Cyberleek
Despite progress in judicial investigations, the individual responsible for the leaks shows no intention of backing down. The Cyberleek group even updated its website shortly after the initial announcement, implementing a “Contact” area with commercial proposals. The menu offers packages of “in-video ads” and “custom-made gameplay footage”, allowing advertisers to pay to have exclusive content within the game’s leaked videos.
One of the most notable aspects is the amount required just to start any type of trade: Cyberleek requests over $164,000 worth of cryptocurrencies. From the first materials released, they all displayed the group’s brand and promoted a memecoin developed on the Solana network.
Rockstar Games’ reaction and impact on Netflix’s announcement
The case remains unsolved, with the investigation ongoing. Rockstar Games, according to previous reports, expressed great dissatisfaction with the leaks, but reiterated that the announcement scheduled with Netflix will not undergo date changes due to these incidents.
