Officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, an agency operating under the Department of Homeland Security, apprehended 26-year-old Senegalese basketball player Aminata Seck on August 7 at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport while she traveled alongside her Kentucky State University teammates to compete in a New York tournament. Federal agents intercepted the collegiate forward before the squad could board their scheduled flight.
Medical conditions and visa status
Defense attorney Sadiqa Reynolds explained that Seck missed administrative deadlines to renew her student visa while convalescing from back surgery. The legal representative stressed that the player requires urgent surgical care to reconstruct a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee. Her visa renewal lapsed.
Reynolds stated that federal officers subjected the athlete to repeated transfers between detention facilities across Kentucky and Chicago without providing specialized treatment.
Detention records and institution status
- Public detainee locator tools maintained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement do not list Seck in their searchable database.
- Official inmate rosters at the Grayson County Detention Center confirm that authorities booked Seck into the local jail.
University of Kentucky athletic officials declined to address the specifics of the enforcement action due to federal privacy regulations. Department spokespersons verified that Seck continues to hold an active position on the basketball roster.
