The British actor who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Professor Charles Xavier died at his home in Los Angeles, California, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the age of 86. The death was confirmed in an official statement.
The statement was released by his manager, Kelly Bush Novak. It said his wife, Sunny, was with him in his final moments, along with family and close friends, surrounded by music and expressions of affection. On September 10, 2026, his representatives had also denied an online hoax that falsely claimed he had died.
The statement said he had lived with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia, a complex neurodegenerative condition, in his final period. The official cause of death was not publicly detailed by his close circle. The memorial announcement, shared on Instagram, asked for donations to the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center Fund and to the Caregiver Resources program of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America instead of flowers.
