A new extratropical cyclone is organizing on the south coast of the country and, together with the advance of a cold front, it should leave the weather unstable in much of Brazil this Thursday (11) and Friday (June 12, 2026). The system, which arises from the deepening of low pressure over Paraguay and the South, brings a risk of heavy rain, storms, wind and high volumes mainly in areas of the South, Southeast and Center-West.
The mass of cold air arriving behind the front helps to reduce temperatures, especially in the South and parts of the Southeast, marking a typical June turn.
Frequent rain and risk of storms in the South
Thursday begins with persistent precipitation in the three states of the southern region. The largest accumulations are predicted for the west and north of Paraná and the west of Santa Catarina, with a chance of thunderstorms accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts of wind. In Rio Grande do Sul, the rain mainly affects the interior.
On Friday, the cyclone already formed over the South Atlantic maintains instability. Paraná remains alert for high volumes, mainly in the north, west and interior. Santa Catarina has rain at various times, while in Rio Grande do Sul the instability decreases in the southern half, but continues in the north and on the coast.
São Paulo and Southeast face the most severe conditions
São Paulo concentrates the most significant impacts in the Southeast. This Thursday, the state records many clouds, moderate to heavy rain and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms, especially in the southwest of São Paulo. In the capital, the day is closed, with periods of rain.
On Friday, the cold front and the cyclone sustain unstable weather, with heavy rain in several regions of São Paulo, in the Triângulo Mineiro, south of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and central-southern Espírito Santo. The gradual entry of cold air contributes to the drop in temperatures.
Storms advance through the Midwest
In the Central-West, low pressure and moisture transport from the Amazon favor storms in Mato Grosso do Sul this Thursday, with greater intensity in the south, southeast and east of the state. Instabilities also reach the south of Goiás and Mato Grosso.
On Friday, rain persists in Mato Grosso do Sul, with a risk of high accumulations and localized storms. Moderate to heavy rain is forecast in the south of Goiás and south of Mato Grosso, while other areas remain firmer.
Northeast and North with different patterns
In the Northeast, the rain is concentrated on the coast. Between Thursday and Friday, the highest volumes occur between Sergipe and Rio Grande do Norte, with periods of moderate to heavy rain. On the north coast, the Intertropical Convergence Zone maintains showers in Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará. The interior continues with dry weather, heat and low humidity.
In the North, the heat and high humidity generate showers typical of the region. This Thursday, the largest volumes are concentrated between Roraima, Amapá, northern Amazonas and northern Pará, with a chance of isolated storms. On Friday, rain continues in these areas, while Tocantins, Rondônia and southern Pará have predominantly sunshine and low humidity in some areas.
