Unprecedented partnership tries to maintain perfect use
The performance demonstrated on German lawns paves the way for João Fonseca to try to win the second professional doubles cup in his career, the second in the current 2026 season. The previous achievement took place in February, in front of the public in Rio de Janeiro, when the tennis player won the Rio Open title playing in partnership with veteran Marcelo Melo. At that moment, the athlete lifted the championship in his first experience in an ATP 500 level tournament in this category.
After that victorious campaign on national soil, João Fonseca had not participated in other competitions focused on the doubles bracket. Registration on grass in Germany serves as a fundamental stage of transition and adaptation for Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, giving the Brazilian the chance to acquire greater ball movement and time on this type of surface before focusing exclusively on commitments in the individual draw.
The Brazilian’s next steps in the grass season
As soon as he finishes his commitments at the ATP 500 in Halle, João Fonseca will continue his preparatory calendar in continental Europe before arriving at the Wimbledon complex. The tennis player from Brazil is confirmed to be part of the ATP 250 bracket in Eastbourne, England, a competition that is scheduled to start on June 22nd. The main championship on British courts, in turn, is scheduled to officially start on June 29th.
