The North American Space Agency (NASA) released coverage details for the total solar eclipse that will take place on August 12, 2026 on July 29, 2026. The astronomical phenomenon will be visible in areas such as Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain and a small portion of Portugal. NASA will broadcast a live broadcast of the event, presenting images from various points along the path of totality and featuring experts.
Additionally, parts of the Northern Hemisphere, including areas of the United States (from Alaska to North Carolina), much of Canada, much of Europe and northwest Africa, will be able to observe a partial solar eclipse.
During the eclipse period, the space agency will perform several surveys of the path of totality. A science team, funded by NASA, will follow the Moon’s shadow with a WB-57 high-altitude research aircraft to study the dynamics of the solar corona. At the same time, the Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project, with support from NASA, will send university students to Iceland and Spain, where they will launch scientific balloons before, during and after the event to investigate the effects of temporary dimming on the Earth’s atmosphere.
