Consortium with Bezos and Saverin buys 30% of Liverpool in billion-dollar deal
Fenway Sports Group, the American conglomerate that owns Liverpool, announced on August 14, 2026 the sale of part of the club’s shares to a group of investors. The transaction involves prominent figures such as Jeff Bezos, creator of Amazon, and Brazilian Eduardo Saverin, one of the co-founders of Facebook.
Named 1892 Holdings, a reference to the year the team was created, the consortium will be led by British businessman Amit Bhatia. He will take on the role of new vice-president of the Anfield team, with previous experience as one of the managers of Queens Park Rangers.

The group of investors also includes the K5 Sports fund, led by Jeff Bezos, and EE Capital, a company owned by Eduardo Saverin and his wife Elaine. Both will also join Liverpool’s board of directors.
This represents Bezos’ first formal investment in the sports sector, ending years of speculation about his possible acquisition of NFL teams. The entry of big technology names into sport reflects the growing appreciation of clubs as global assets, with revenue potential on several fronts, from broadcasting rights to digital engagement.
Bezos, the third richest man on the planet, has an estimated fortune of US$271.4 billion, which corresponds to approximately R$1.410 trillion, according to data from Forbes magazine. He must not hold a direct position on the board; this role will be played by Bryan Baum, one of his closest collaborators.
Eduardo Saverin, one of the creators of Facebook along with Mark Zuckerberg, has a net worth of US$36 billion, approximately R$188.31 billion.
This transaction marks the first injection of external capital into Liverpool since September 2023, when Dynasty Equity acquired 3% of the club for US$200 million, equivalent to R$1.046 billion.
