João Fonseca secured a place in the round of 16 of the ATP 500 by Munique by overcoming the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo this Tuesday, April 14th. The Brazilian won by 2 sets to 0, with partials of 7/6 (7/1) and 6/3, in 1 hour and 33 minutes on German clay. The victory marks a rematch, as Fonseca had been eliminated by Tabilo in the ATP 250 of Buenos Aires in February this year.

Performance and climate

Fonseca praised Tabilo and highlighted the difficulty of the match. Ele also commented on Munique’s requirement to adapt to the cold, a contrast to the heat of Monte-Carlo. “It was a little cold,” he said. Quick adaptation to different environments is crucial in professional tennis.

In the next phase, João Fonseca will face the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech. The two recently met in the Monte-Carlo 1000, with Fonseca winning in three sets. Rinderknech, seed number 7 in Munique, eliminated the North American Alex Michelsen in his debut. The date and time of the round of 16 clash will still be defined by the organization.
