A mural of more than 2,000 square meters honoring Ayrton Senna and the city of São Paulo now covers the wall at Interlagos. Muralist Eduardo Kobra presented the work on Thursday, October 29, 2026, on the stretch of wall that runs around the Curva do Laranjinha, a traditional section of the track.

The painting shows Senna alongside ordinary workers who keep the city running: a nurse, a street sweeper, a civil guard, a retiree and a student. Landmarks such as Avenida Paulista, the Pacaembu stadium and the Sé Cathedral also appear in the artwork.

Senna was a man of faith, character and ethics, and he had a deep love for Brazil, Kobra said during the official presentation in the south zone of São Paulo. “That is what connected me to Formula 1.”

Why the artist chose the Laranjinha wall

The mural was placed so it stays within the drivers’ field of view as they approach the braking point of the corner, and organizers expect it to appear in international TV broadcasts. According to the artist, the concept is to shift attention away from sporting heroes alone and toward the people who make the city work.

“In this mural, Ayrton is next to real people,” Kobra said. “A nurse, a civil guard, a street sweeper, a retiree and a student represent millions of citizens who make São Paulo happen.”

The Interlagos circuit now hosts two of the largest permanent tributes to Senna in the city. The first, painted in 2020, shows the driver lifting the trophy after his first win at the track in 1991.

Seating and infrastructure upgrades ahead of race weekend

São Paulo City Hall used the ceremony to present the completion of physical infrastructure works at the José Carlos Pace circuit. The projects added permanent masonry structures in two sections of the track, which raises the number of spectators the venue can receive.

  • Curva do Laranjinha: 2,000 square meter painel and a new seating section
  • Curva do S do Senna: new modules for spectators
  • Extra capacity: 7,518 new fixed seats approved by São Paulo City Hall
  • Race day: Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 2 p.m. Brasília time
  • Broadcast in Brazil: live on TV Globo free-to-air and on the sportv 3 pay channel

Track activity for the São Paulo Grand Prix begins on Friday (6), with the first practice session at 12:30 p.m. and the second at 4 p.m. Brasília time. Qualifying takes place on Saturday (7) at 3 p.m., and no sprint race is scheduled at Interlagos in 2026.
