Gilberto Mora breaks historic record in Mexico and emerges as youngest player in the 2026 World Cup

Midfielder Gilberto Mora takes on the role of youngest athlete in the 2026 World Cup, aged just 17 years and seven months. Even with little experience in the professional football scene, the young talent now faces an opportunity that many athletes seek to achieve throughout their careers on the pitch: performing on one of the biggest stages on the planet. The competitor consolidates himself as the only person under 18 registered in the current tournament and will achieve the feat of being the youngest athlete to defend the Mexican team in the entire history of this competition.

By consolidating his entry onto the pitch in this edition of the tournament, the athlete nicknamed “Morita” will leave behind the record of his fellow countryman Manuel Rosas. The former owner of the brand participated in the 1930 edition of the world championship, held in Uruguay, when he was 18 years and eight days old.
