Personal trainer Douglas Lenon Gonçalves Martins, aged 40, died this Wednesday morning, June 10, at Santa Casa de Campo Grande. He had been hospitalized for 15 days after suffering a violent attack inside his own home, in the Parque dos Novos Estados neighborhood.
The crime occurred on May 26th. A group invaded the residence, beat the victim and administered several insulin injections against his will. Douglas still had a deep cut on his abdomen when he was rescued by the Military Fire Department.
At the hospital, he was admitted at around 12:18 pm in a very serious condition, with cardiorespiratory arrest. The suspicion is that the excess insulin caused a glycemic shock, worsening the clinical condition. He did not survive and was confirmed dead at 7:20 am this Wednesday.
With the death, the Civil Police must reclassify the case from bodily injury to homicide. So far, there is no information about suspects identified or arrested. The investigations seek to clarify the authorship and motivation of the attack.
Second victim of extreme violence
This was not the first time that Douglas Lenon Gonçalves Martins was the target of a serious attack. In 2021, he was shot in the face by a federal highway police officer inside a motel in Campo Grande. The agent, who had allegedly acted out of jealousy towards his ex-wife, was found dead days later. The police concluded that he took his own life.
Five years later, the personal trainer was once again a victim of extreme violence. The family reported that there are still details about the case that need to be clarified.
The death of Douglas Lenon reinforces concerns about security in homes in Campo Grande and the use of substances such as insulin in criminal contexts, something unusual that requires specialized expertise to prove.
