The performance of Ecuadorian midfielder Pedro Vite during the clash between Ivory Coast and Ecuador, held in Philadelphia, United States, for the World Cup last Sunday (14), aroused great interest among Brazilian fans. Interestingly, the athlete was very close to joining the Santos squad in a previous transfer window, as revealed.
The player, then at Pumas, in Mexico, was very receptive to the idea of playing for Alvinegro Praiano during that period. Negotiations advanced considerably between the months of January and February, however, the parties – the Mexican club and the São Paulo team – were unable to finalize an agreement.
According to reports by Lucas Musetti, journalist at UOL Esporte, the Baixada Santista team has reached an advanced stage to secure the signing of the versatile Ecuadorian midfielder. Faced with the impossibility of completing this transaction, Peixe’s management directed its efforts and signed the arrivals of strikers Rony and Moisés.

The question about a possible new attack by Santos on the player was raised by Musetti himself on his social networks. The journalist highlighted that the club was on the verge of signing Pedro Vite at the beginning of the year, highlighting how close the agreement was to being completed and how its failure resulted in the signing of Rony and Moisés.
With the player’s rise on the international scene, the question about a possible new attempt by Santos to sign him gains strength among fans and the sports media, generating debates as to whether Peixe should go after Pedro Vite again.
Currently 24 years old, the talented midfielder maintains a contract with Pumas, from Mexico, until July 2029. His market valuation, according to Transfermarkt, reaches 6 million euros, equivalent to around R$36 million. Experts indicate that its value could continue to rise during the World Cup, making Santos’ failed negotiation even more relevant.
