Public relations company Poplar Group announced the end of its partnership with Trump Mobile, maker of the Trump Phone T1 cell phone. The decision comes amid a series of controversies that have surrounded the device since its launch, including customer data leaks and changes to the original model.

Chris Walker, one of the founders of Poplar Group, formalized the discontinuation of work in an official statement. The statement confirmed the breakdown of collaboration between the two parties.

The statement, short and to the point, stated: “We no longer work with Trump Mobile.” This sentence sealed the end of the professional relationship.

Although Walker did not specify the reason for the split, it is speculated that misleading information about the Trump Phone played a crucial role. Trump Mobile had assured Poplar Group that its devices were “proudly made in America”, making this the product’s main marketing slogan.

The manufacturer’s emphasis on the origin of the device was so intense that Chris Walker himself, in an interview with the USA Today program, declared that the Trump Phone was a product entirely produced in the United States. This statement was central to the initial communications strategy.

Trump Mobile’s slogan was later changed to “designed with American values in mind.” This change came after Walker’s interview and, more significantly, after a thorough analysis of the Trump Phone by iFixit, which revealed it to be an adapted version of the Chinese-made HTC U24 Pro.

A revelação impactou negativamente a reputação tanto da Trump Mobile quanto de Chris Walker. However, the main victims appear to have been consumers and Poplar Group itself, who trusted the company’s guarantees.

To date, Trump Mobile has not issued any official statement about what happened. It is likely that the company is already seeking or has already secured the services of a new public relations agency.
